It's been about 8 years and 3 months since it happened last time, but Milady and I are escaping for a mini-getaway. We won a $750 room at an auction for one of the local hotels...for substatially less than the stated value.
Weekends don't work well for us this time of year, so I'm taking time-off at work, off-loading the kids to our neighbor friends, and then escaping. Don't call, don't page, don't write, don't even think of knocking on the door (unless you are room service). You will be ignored.

Even after seeing this several years in a row, it still cracks me up.
I just discovered that you can use Google as a calculator. Things like:
Thought it was cool and thought I would pass it on.
Addendum: The Answer To Life, The Universe, And Everything - Thanks Valette

Thing One is taking a quilting class. She has mostly finished all of her top squares. I must say I'm completely impressed and can't wait until she makes a quilt for me.
Thanks to a utility pointed out by a friend (or is that "thanks to a friend who pointed out a utility"), I implemented an auto-close comments plugin on my blog.
The reason? In one week, I received over 60 spamments, and that was with MT Blacklist installed. MT Blacklist certainly helped cleanup those that slipped in, but if they hadn't been there in the first place...
As for "spamments", I thought I was being original and crafting a new word. I was wrong, others have coined the phrase prior to me. It goes back at least 18 months. Oh well.
One day a teacher had a taste test with her students. She picked a little boy to do the first test. She blindfolded him, put a Hershey Kiss in his mouth and asked, "Do you know what it is?"
"No, I don't," said the little boy.
"Okay, I'll give you a clue: the thing your daddy wants from your Mom before he goes to work."
Suddenly, a little girl at the back of the room jumped up and yelled, "Spit it out Donnie! It's a piece of ass!"
This guy has an interesting twist on playing the piano. Check it out.
Yeah, yeah, I've been silent. I went to Reno this last week on a business trip. In a nut shell, I started about 18 months ago on a looong-term project to unify all the computer specialist that work on fire. When I say unify, I mean we are trying to standardize our tools, roles, and responsibilities. We have a draft charter that has provisional acceptance by the interested individuals that attended. Now we'll see what the higher ups have to say. I know that there are some that support the movement and I know there are those that don't even know there is a movement. Time will tell.
On a side note - I spent most on the week inside the Atlantis Hotel/Casino in Reno. I played (and lost) $50 on the blackjack table, but had fun. It really is pretty boring there if you don't drink and you don't gamble. I would have surfed, but I didn't have a wi-fi enabled computer and dial-up just don't float my boat. I stayed pretty busy otherwise, so it wasn't a huge loss.
Dear Valette,
Thank you so much for cluing me into MT-Blacklist. I just eradicated 12 "spams" with little to no effort. It was ade especially easy once I turned on comment notification.
The only thing that I could think that would be even better would be to turn off the ability to comment on messages older than X days. I have heard references to such a tool, but am not sure which is the current favorite. For that matter, is there more than one product, or even is there a built in function that I have yet to find to accomplish this...automatically?
Sincerly,
-Joat.
Yes, I've been a tad busy, plus I haven't had much to write about. I still don't, but I thought I would post something I found at Hack A Day. There is an article that documents some steps to take to speedup Firefox.
Also, for the voyeur in all of us, I discovered a new fad - geocamming. It was enough to make me make sure I had secured my camera.
Okay, you may resume your normal activities.
