Cover me, I'm going in

Here I sit on the precipice of a large chasm preparing myself to jump. The question is whether or not I will make it out the far side. What am I talking' about? I'm getting ready to gut my PC and replace the motherboard/CPU. Along the way, I'm going to do a scratch install of WinXP, which means goodbye to my current environment.

See ya' on the other side.

Update 1: 20-Feb-05 23:30-ish I am back up and running, HW and basic OS. The procesor isn't showing what it should be so I must go research and tweak the settings. Talk about Plug-n-Pray.
Update 2: 21-Feb-05 13:57 Although I still have aesthetic tweaks to do, I consider the job a success. What follows is a month long journey remembering the apps I forgot to install. I strated from scrath this a.m. and re-did everything. Here's hoping I don't have to do that again for about a year or so.

Congratulate Me

I went to the Palmer range yesterday and returned today after competing in an NRA Sectional Bullseye competition. How'd I do? Well, thanks for asking. Out out approximaely 15 shooters, I place first in class and second overall. I'm pretty happy with that. I even whiffed a few, but then so did several of the better shooters. I missed first place by 10 points. Next time I hope to whiff a few less.

While there I made it to:

  • Alaska Shooters Supply - Didn't buy anything
  • Great Northern Guns - Bought something for Thing 1
  • Best Buy - Didn't buy anything
  • Borders - Bought something for Thing 1, Thing 2 & myself
  • Sportsman Warehouse - Didn't buy anything
  • CompUSA - Bought something for myself
  • Dinner at Outback - Can you say "Bloomin' Onion"?

All this shopping and eating in 5 hours. Next time I think I'll skip the trip to Anchorage. It cost waaaay too much money.

What Are We Going To Do Tonight, Brain?

This weekend has turned into a four day weekend. Woohoo! On my list of things to do...

  • Upgrade my computer to the 2.8GHz banshee that I just purchased. Yes I could have gone faster, but I also had to pay for my trip to Anchorage.
  • Attend an ice skating event. Ice Capades, Ice Wars, Ice Queens, whatever. The Things want to go. The good news - I'll miss part of it. I'm going to be returning to Fairbanks at some point Saturday night. The bad news - I won't miss all of it.
  • Go to Anchorage for a little Bullseye Pistol Competition. May also go to the Man Store while there. Also on my list is Barnes & Noble.
  • Work on the bathroom some more. All the sealant is up that I mentioned earlier. Now I get to put some more back down. It should go easier this time.

Ka's Evil Twin

This is really twisted, so I though I'd share. Those easily disturbed should take a pass.

Furthermore...

I would never do that to an animal, but I found it humorous nonetheless.

Stuff

Yes, I know, I've been lax in posting, but life has been busy...

  • We had a prospective pastor in town this last week in view of a call. Nice young family. I am now officially old. If we call this man (and I'm pretty sure we will) he will be the first pastor I've had that is younger than me. I think it may be a good thing!
  • I'm preparing for a Bullseye Pistol competition in Anchorage (Wasilla). I may see if a good friend has any plans to be in the area next weekend.
  • I am seriously looking at upgrading the old home PC. It's a home brew that I keep upgrading bits and pieces over the years. It's time to boost its processor. I'm thinking that an Athlon XP 3200+ looks like a nice processor. Of course I'll need a new motherboard and about 2 GB of RAM. May have to settle with 1GB though.
  • A friend, his son, and son-in-law are playing World Of Warcraft and it sounds very intersting. It's a massive online multi-player game. I've never done one, but I have wanted to. The only hitch is that not only do you have to buy the software, you have to pay a monthly fee. The Scot in me may overcome the urge to play. Then again, maybe not.
  • I'm still working on the bathroom. I may not be fast, but I am thorough. I had the bathtub panels in and the silicone sealant that I used to seal the edges began peeling off within 24 hours. Apparently there is a difference between silicone sealant and siliconized caulk. Who knew? Did you also know that there is only one compound that I can use to dissolve said silicone off the walls? Yep - elbow grease. Aren't I happy. Not!
That's all for now.
